Annual Reports

The Occupational Registration Board is a statutory authority responsible for the administration of the Occupational Therapists Registration Act 1980. The Act is currently under review and amending legislation is anticipated in the near future. Please contact us if you have any queries regarding the Act.

The Occupational Therapists Act is an Act of Parliament proclaimed in 1980 for the primary purpose of protecting the public of Western Australia and falls under the portfolio of the Minister of Health.

The primary functions of the Board are:

  • Registration of occupational therapists;
  • Investigation of complaints received from members of the public against registered occupational therapists;
  • Investigation of complaints received concerning non-registered persons practising occupational therapy;
  • Regulation of advertising by occupational therapists, including use of qualifications, titles and practice names.

The Act provides the Board with the power to warn, fine and de-register occupational therapists. The Board may also prosecute members of the public who may be in breach of the provisions of the Act and Regulations. Where matters relate to criminal activity or affect other Registration Boards, the Board may refer those matters to the respective authority. The Board is required to inform the Office of Health Review of all complaints received against registered occupational therapists.
