Qualifications

For the purposes of Section 27(2)(f) of the Occupational Therapists Act 2005, the qualifications specified below are prescribed as a qualification for registration as an occupation therapist.

 

The following qualifications are currently acceptable for unconditional registration:

Western Australia

  • Diploma of the Royal Perth Hospital School of Occupational Therapy (conferred 1960 - 1969) by the Royal Perth Hospital School of Occupational Therapy

  • Associateship Occupational Therapy (conferred 1969 - 1973) by the Western Australian Institute of Technology

  • Bachelor of Applied Science Occupational Therapy (conferred 1974 - 1987) by the Western Australian Institute of Technology

  • Bachelor of Applied Science Occupational Therapy (conferred 1988 - 1992) by Curtin University of Technology

  • Bachelor of Science Occupational Therapy (conferred 1993 onwards) by Curtin University of Technology

  • Master of Occupational Therapy (conferred 2004 onwards) by Curtin University of Technology

  • Bachelor of Science (Occupational Therapy) (conferred 2009 onwards) by Edith Cowan University

  • Master of Occupational Therapy Practice (conferred 2009 onwards) by Edith Cowan University.

  • Certificate that applicant has passed all stages of the examination in Occuaptional Therapy (1989 - 1999) through the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition
  • Certificate that applicant has met occupational therapy practice audit requirements (2000 onwards) through the Council of Occupational Therapists Registration Boards (Australia and New Zealand) Inc.

Council Of Occupational Therapy Registration Boards (COTRB)

If you do not hold one of the qualifications listed above, or hold current registration in another State or Territory of Australia, you would not be entitled to apply for unconditional registration in Western Australia or practise occupational therapy unless you have successfully completed the COTRB desktop assessment, and satisfactorily undertaken a period of supervised practice audit.

Additional Qualifications

Occupational therapists who hold postgraduate qualifications in occupational therapy can apply to the Board to register the qualifications.
